Haircut

If I were to do a series of posts on things that make me feel like a "grown-up" this would feature prominently. I really don't see doing a post-series, but the little startling moments that make me feel grown-up are interesting to think about.

I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow, which is always a delightful experience -- and an appointment I've been looking forward to for quite some time. That's right, I made an appointment to get my hair cut.
More than a day in advance.
More than a week in advance.
Ok, honestly? I made the appointment when I left the salon after my last cut, 8 weeks ago. I used to ridicule women who did that (in my mind), thinking, "How are you going to know when your hair needs to be cut? What if you get bored between now and then?" And then I became one of them. Because while I made silent fun of them, they seemed so adult, so put-together. And while I might venture into the land of feeling like a grown-up.... put-together? Not-so-much!!

Um, some of us do it because we know when the grey will be obvious again...

:) Which is a whole other reason to schedule appointments ahead of time!

I can only echo what Songbird said. *sigh* The grey stripe is especially annoying because 90% of the people around me are taller than I am and have a perfect view of my skunk stripe even before I notice it.

(These are the same people who notice the grunge on the top of my fridge).

I LOVE getting my hair cut (washed, cut, and dried, really).

Have a great time--

I have never mastered the art of the "schedule ahead" when it comes to haircuts. My hair seems to scream "Cut me!" one day, and I call the salon.

My stylist is an enabler to this, since she can usually get me in within two days or so.

When my hair stylist went to fewer days/week, she started encouraging her customers to make appointments ahead. I also have found it to be a blessing. I like the hairdresser, we are in the same stage of our lives, and I like not getting the "I really need a haircut" hair, when I can't get in.

I go there and just relax and talk about things we have in common and family. I can't see without my glasses, so this actually enhances the relaxation. I just "let it all go" for about 25 minutes. Hooray.

I make my hair & eyebrow wax appts every 5 weeks - as I leave the salon, I make the appt for the next one. Otherwise it'd be six months in between...

My stylist is good enough that she can be selective about who she sees & when she works, and therefore she can't always get me in at the instant that I realize that my hair is engulfing my head and I am going to go mad with it on there one more minute.

As ps said, the stylist has also become a friend and it is a pleasure to talk with her regularly. Ahhh.

Update on my new hair appointment making status. Yesterday I was at the salon/spa for a massage (using a birthday gift from dear, dear husband) and I realized that I had made my next hair appointment for too far in advance. When I asked to change it she asked if she could also book my next one as it will fall in the midst of the holiday rush and she wanted to be sure I could get in. That's right. I left the salon yesterday with another massage appointment and not one, but two hair appointments in advance. Yikes!!
