Great. Now what do I do?

Yesterday we discovered that a neighboring community had a parade -- a perfect activity for our little family.
So, we saw fire engines and bands and cheerleaders and politicians. We saw the biggest grocery basket I've ever seen and collected many tootsie rolls and those caramel things with the white stuff in the middle (which I love). We were touched by the number of children passing out things from the parade who walked over to our son and handed him something, realizing that he couldn't scramble for the candy like the big kids who surrounded him, or reach to catch something.
We spread our blanket out on the grass and watched all of it go by in glory. If only I'd stayed on the blanket. Instead, I perched for what felt like a moment on the curb. And when I stood, the wad of gum upon which I'd sat stretched and stretched and stretched.
It's been a long time since I've had gum on anything. How do I get it out? Help, please, dear readers! I was wearing a favorite pair of dark, long denim-ish shorts from AT Loft that I haven't had that long (thanks to the end-of-season sales), and I really don't want to lose them.

Peanut Butter. Seriously. It will dissolve the gum. Then use your favorite dish soap to get the peanut butter out. Then launder.

there is also this stuff called Goof Off you may want to try -- read the label first as this was a reccommendation to me from someone else and I have not tried it yet.

good luck!

Try one of those orange oil based cleaners. They mention gum on the label. Then you put some liquid laundry detergetn right on the spot to get out the orange oil cleaner. I know that this works on tar on the carpet, so it should work on gum.

Also, usually if you look this up it will say to use an ice cube first to harden the gum so you can scrape the most off first.

I'll let you all know how it goes. And what works.
Or where I end up shopping next.

goo gone is what I used when it happened to me---but it was a dark colored pair of pants so I don't know if it would stain lighter colors.

i echo the ice cube thing to harden the gum... yuck. feel your pain... or stickiness i guess.

The Altar Guild might have Goo be Gone in the sacristy. It's also great for candle wax.

Put 'em in the freezer for awhile; then scrape off what you can. Then launder.

i agree with the ice treatment. it may take many times. Hold an ice cube behind it and scrape with a dull table knife.

Patience and many repetitions got the gum out of dd's favorite sundress when she stuck it on bodice and pinched the fabric over it to save til after dinner.
